DEC RX02 - 8 inch Dual Disk Drive

The 8 inch floppy disk was developed by IBM in 1971 and rapidly became a favourite means of storage. DEC produced RX01 and RX02 models which were mechanically similar, differing only in their electronics.

The power supply is at the rear of the drive, (right of the illustration). The control circuitry is mounted on two PCBs, which hinge open as shown.

From left to right at the rear: An 8 inch floppy disk, a 5¼ inch floppy disk and a 3½ inch floppy disk.
From left to right in the front row: An 8 inch drive, a 5¼ inch full height drive, a 5¼ inch half height drive and a 3½ inch 1.44 MB drive.
